5th World Flute E-Competition 2024

"Napolinova"

The “Napolinova World Flute E-Competition” is created with the goal of providing young flutists with an opportunity to show their creativity. The World Flute E-Competition is born in the 2020, during period pandemic, that has forced all of us to stay at home, and to cancel our concerts, festivals, and live competitions. Young artists have continued to work hard and we want to give them a chance to present themselves and their progress. This Competition is organized by “Napolinova”, a musical association that has for more than twenty years engaged in the promotion of young artists through the creation of musical events. The jury members reside on different continents, but each is known worldwide. We will avail ourselves of their great experience and expertise and ensure that the whole process is fair and transparent. Winners will receive wide exposure through broadcasts, social media, and even live concerts, to help their artistic career. Scholarships and concerts will be awarded at winners. Ex-aequo are allowed. In case of ex-aequo, the scholarships will be divided. At the conclusion of the competition, participants who do not win prizes can choose whether to make their videos public, or keep them unlisted. The winners must immediately go on YouTube or YouKu and make sure their videos’ settings are switched to “public”. Those videos will be posted on the “Napolinova” Association’s Facebook Page and in social the jury members. 


RULES

Categories

A) flutists born from 01/01/2008 and younger. Video duration max 5 minutes
B) flutists born from 01/01/2003 and younger. Video duration max 10 minutes
C) flutists born from 01/01/1994 and younger. Video duration max 15 minutes


Contestants may choose to apply to any one category, so long as they are not older than the age limit.

Certificates at winners and also at teachers

The winners the online concert will be awarded the chance to perform a live-streamed concert from a location of their choice. Duration will depend on their age. prize and repertoire.
Prize winners may decide to record a performance instead of streaming it live. Either the live or the recorded performance will be published on the "Napolinova" Facebook page, and on the Facebook, WeChat, YouTube, or Youku platforms of the jury members.

NICOLE ESPOSITO

A charismatic and versatile flutist, Nicole Esposito is the flute professor and head of the woodwind area at The University of Iowa School of Music, where she is the recipient of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Collegiate Teaching Award, and also serves as Visiting Professor at the University of Chile. She has achieved a career as a soloist, teacher, chamber and orchestral musician on an international level having been featured across the United States, Europe, Central and South America and Asia. Esposito has performed at flute festivals and events around the world including fifteen National Flute Association Conventions, the Oklahoma Flute Fair, Florida Flute Convention, Flute Society of Kentucky Festival, Wisconsin Flute Festival, West Virginia Flute Fling, Iowa Flute Festival, Atlanta Flute Festival, the LA Flute Guild Festival, San Francisco International Flute Festival, The Texas Summer Flute Symposium, FLUTISSIMO!, NSU Flute Workshop, Festival Virtuosi, Brazil, the International Flute Festival sponsored by the Brazilian Flute Association, the Santa Maria International Winter Festival, Aruba Symphony Festival and Academy, the Panama Flute Festival, the International Flute Festival of Costa Rica, the Spanish National Flute Convention, Bogotá Flute Festival, the International Flute Congress of Argentina, Chilean Flute Encounter, the European Piccolo Festival in Slovenia, International Piccolo Festival in Italy, the Adams Flute Festival in Holland, Flute Forum in Luxembourg, the Canadian Flute Convention, and the British Flute Society Convention among others. In addition to her teaching position at The University of Iowa, Professor Esposito has served on the faculties of the Interlochen Arts Camp, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and held guest-teaching residencies at the University of Michigan, West Virginia University and the University of Massachusetts- Amherst. She has given numerous master classes at prestigious universities and conservatories in the United States and abroad including Rice University, the Peabody Institute, the Geneva Conservatory, Royal Danish Academy, Madrid Royal Conservatory, Mannheim Hochshule, Shanghai Normal University and many others. As an orchestral musician, Esposito has performed under some of the worlds leading conductors, including James Conlon, David Zinman, Gunther Schuller, and Robert Spano. Former principal flute with the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, she has also performed with the Quad City Symphony, Cedar Rapids Symphony, Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony, Youngstown (OH) Symphony, and the Johnstown and Westmoreland (PA) Symphony Orchestras. Esposito has held the Piccolo Fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival and has also been Principal Flute of the Ohio Light Opera. She has participated in a number of other music festivals including the Brevard Music Center, The Youth Orchestra of the Americas, and the National Orchestral Institute. Professor Esposito holds degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Michigan. She has been a finalist or prizewinner in several prestigious competitions including the National Flute Association’s Young Artist, Piccolo Artist, and Orchestral Competitions, the WAMSO Competition sponsored by the Minnesota Orchestra, and the Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition. Additionally, she has published articles on Banddirector.com, The Flutist Quarterly, Flute Focus and Flute Talk Magazines and can be heard on the Albany Records, MSR Classics and Con Brio Recordings labels. Her primary flute teachers include Jeanne Baxtresser, Amy Porter, Marianne Gedigian, Jennifer Steele, and Catherine Payne, with additional study with Mark Sparks, Alberto Almarza, and Doriot Anthony Dwyer. Nicole Esposito is Miyazawa Performing Artist.

SOYOUNG LEE

Korean born flutist Soyoung Lee has finished her studies in America (Oberlin Conservatory and Yale University). She had been a principal flute of the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra for 18 years(1993-2011). She has played many recitals and concertos with major orchestra including Ensemble of Tokyo at Kiyoii Hall in 2012 . She has been a jury member of the Israel Haifa international flute competition, the 2nd Beijing-Nicolet international flute competition and the 9th Kobe International Flute Competition. In 2019, She was a jury member of Carl Nielsen International Competition in Denmark. So far, she has released 3 Solo and concerti CD from Skarbo, France and Bach Brandenbourg concerti from EMI Korea. She is a professor of Seoul Central Conservatory and also teaches Seoul arts highschool and Yewon school of arts.


CARLO TAMPONI

Andrea Manco - BiografiaBorn in Rome, a student of C. Klemm, he graduated from the S. Cecilia Conservatory of Music in Rome with G. Graverini and studied composition with A. Renzi. Initially dedicated to the study and performance of contemporary music under the guidance of F. Evangelisti and A. Clementi, and then broadening his knowledge towards every genre of repertoire both as a soloist and as a chamber musician, he has performed in Italy and abroad .
He has toured in various countries such as: Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Greece and Latin America, often participating in radio and television recordings (RAI, Greek National Radio, German NDR).
 He has collaborated with internationally renowned artists such as: C. Bruno, F. Petracchi, M. Campanella, B. Canino, P. Masi, P. Vernikov, A. Lonquich, L. Kavakos, M. Argerich and others. Collaborations with chamber groups include the Solisti di Roma, New Music Studium, the Quartetto Foné, the Cameristi di Roma, the Polimnia ensemble and the recently formed Trio Hormus.
 From 1981 to 2018 he was first solo flute of the Symphony Orchestra of the Accademia di S. Cecilia in Rome, in which he had the opportunity to perform under the direction of the most important world "bacchette". In this role he also collaborated with the RAI Symphony Orchestra of Rome and the Filarmonica della Scala of Milan; also as a soloist he has played with ensembles such as: the Mantua Chamber Orchestra, the Virtuosi di S.Cecilia, the Rome Philharmonics, the International Orchestra of Italy, the Lublin Philharmonic Orchestra and the Rome Orchestra and of Lazio. He was a teacher from 1978 to 1986 at the Conservatories of Italy and held courses and masters in numerous Italian academies and conservatories, as well as at the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, including free specialization courses at the National Academy of S. Cecilia in Rome. He has recorded for the record companies: Ducale, Musikstrasse, ECA, Ars, Inedita and Tactus.
